Keely’s Corner

By Keely Kelleher
What a race to end the season. I ripped the Super G in Whiteface, NY to become a national champion. As I’ve said many times ski racing knocks you down and picks you up. After the missed Olympics I’d lost all confidence in my ability on snow. That passed and I looked inside myself and found the motivation to believe again.

This year’s Huck-A-Berry Jam couldn’t have been better. With competitors from all over the state of Montana plus neighboring Idaho, this was an event to remember. The day was gorgeous with sunny skies and mid 30 degree temperatures. Moonlight Basin’s Zero Gravity Terrain Park crew set up an array of features that challenged competitors and encouraged jaw dropping tricks.
Watch national champions this weekend
Although the Paralympics are the main focus this season, the athletes are excited for the event. U.S. Championships are always fun and exciting with members of the team such as Chris Devlin-Young (sit-ski; Campton, NH) and Tyler Walker (sit-ski; Franconia, NH) predicted to battle for gold in the downhill, while Victor and Paralympic gold medalist Allison Jones (Colorado Springs, CO) look to shine.

The Big Sky Ski Education Foundation’s (BSSEF) Freeride team has had an extremely active season. Between scouting new lines off the A-Z/ Headwaters ridge, getting almost all the kids into the Big Couloir, learning and reevaluating avalanche skills and hitting every cliff in the area, the team has also been on the road. March has been especially hectic with a special event going on every weekend.
